Legendary entertainer Bob Hope was laid to rest yesterday (30JUL03) in California at a dawn ceremony attended by 100 people.

Hope's widow DOLORES and daughter LINDA led mourners at the mass held at ST CHARLES BORROMEO Catholic Church. After the moving ceremony, where the congregation gave the THANK'S FOR THE MEMORIES star a standing ovation, Hope's hearse was driven to the SAN FERNANDO MISSION Cemetery where he was buried near his mother.

Mourner Johnny Grant, the honorary mayor of Hollywood, told reporters, "There was a short Scripture reading at the cemetery, then all of us gave one final standing ovation and we left."

Later friends and well-wishers attended a private gathering at the Hope home in Toluca Lake.

Public memorial services for the beloved comedian will be held on August 27 (03).

Hope died of pneumonia on Sunday (27JUL03), just two months after turning 100 years old.

British-born Hope was one of America's most beloved entertainers for more than seven decades, starring in vaudeville, movies, radio, television and film.
