SIR Bob Geldof has dismissed the deal struck at last week's (ends18DEC05) World Trade talks as "thin gruel" for Africa.

The Irish singer is a committed campaigner and organised the Live 8 concerts in July (05) to put pressure on world leaders to cancel developing world debt.

And he had hoped leaders would reduce trade barriers in a bid to give hope of Africa's economies being able to compete on a more equal basis.

He says, "It wasn't a total failure... but it was very thin gruel after such an immensely successful year."
