Bob Dylan is giving away 50,000 free copies of his new album to the elderly.

The veteran rocker has struck a deal with bosses of the American Association of Retired Persons (Aarp) to send out copies of his latest record, Shadows in the Night, to subscribers of Aarp The Magazine.

Editors of the publication, which is aimed at retired and elderly Americans, will choose the 50,000 recipients at random from the subscription list.

Dylan tells the magazine, "A lot of those readers are going to like this record. If it was up to me, I'd give you the records for nothing and you give them to every (reader of your) magazine."

Shadows in the Night features covers of famous American standards and is due for release next month (Feb15).
