ALEX JAMES is set to swap his guitar for a typewriter as he contributes to a children's book for charity .

The Blur guitarist will pen ten lines of an enchanted tale, Once Upon a Time, for the NSPCC's book before passing it on to another celebrity who will add their own ten lines.

Alex, who is beginning the story, has found inspiration for his tale in his band's hit single COUNTRY HOUSE.

It tells the story of a big house in the country inhabited by a duke who has cellars full of the finest cheeses.

He ends his contribution with four children arriving at the house.

A total of 52 celebrities will add to the project including KT Tunstall, Linford Christie, members of HOT CHIP and Radio One DJ Sara Cox.

Speaking about the project, Scottish songstress KT TUNSTALL told Gig Wise: "I'm delighted to be part of a creative project dedicated to helping children in distress. Every child deserves a story at bedtime, and this story may help those who never get one."

The completed story will be read at a charity event later this year before being auctioned off.

Money raised from the sale will help fund a new directory enquiry number for the children's charity.

Meanwhile, James has recently been signed up to present Classic FM's A-Z of Classical Music series which will run over the next two years, reports Digital Spy.
