The Honey Bee singer will join fellow first-time honourees Little Big Town and Sam Hunt among the recipients of the annual accolade, alongside Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line, who both also made the 2014 list.

The stars will be celebrated at the CMT network's annual TV special, which will take place at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee on 2 December (15).

The event, which recognises the artists who have dominated the country industry each year, will also feature surprise tributes and performances.

Previous honourees have included Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Shelton's ex-wife, Miranda Lambert.

The former couple announced its shock split in July (15), on the same day Lambert and Shelton's divorce was finalised. Shelton has since moved on and is dating newly-single Gwen Stefani, his fellow mentor on U.S. talent show The Voice.
