Heartbeat Ep Released on Independiente on 14th November
"Tell me what you reach for when the stars are out of sight," sings Joe Taylor, on Heartbeat, the tumultuous lead track on Blackbud's forthcoming EP. It's a pertinent question from a band who are clearly stretching up to their own ambitions.
Livewire, their debut EP on Fierce Panda, showcased a prodigious talent for making bold, soulful and intense music and impressed critics with its scope and ambition. Heartbeat, Blackbud's second EP and their first release on Independiente, looks set to do the same. On each of the EP's three tracks Blackbud show a musical prowess and emotional depth remarkable in a band so young. From the bluesy pyrotechnics of the title track, through Steal Away to closing ballad Corner Of The World, it's clear they're following their own musical path. Having met whilst playing in college bands this West Country trio have forged a solid and imaginative foundation on which they build their sky-high rock.
Joe Taylor (guitars), Sam Nadel (drums) and Adam Newton (bass) may have only just said goodbye to their teens, but they've notched up a considerable list of achievements since they formed Blackbud in 2002. Road tested veterans, they've played over 200 gigs, both here and abroad, been taken under the wings of Youth and Michael Eavis, had a song in a Hollywood film and been given the nod of approval from one of their heroes, Jimmy Page. Page, who was at their first London show, was clearly impressed and noted some similarities between Blackbud and his former band. "He talked about how Led Zeppelin used to play for two and a half hours", says Taylor, "and how he could tell we'd been dying to do that too.."
Blackbud are soon to start work on their debut album with producer David Bottrill. A Grammy award winning producer Bottrill lists Muse, Tool, Silverchair and Peter Gabriel amongst his credits and was chosen by the band for the 'warmth and subtlety of his production'.
The new 3 track Heartbeat EP will be released on Monday 14th November. Pre-order CD and 7 inch from Record Stores
