Singer/songwriter Billy Joel is happy to record new songs solely for his own enjoyment, because he feels he has lost his cutting lyrical edge.

The UPTOWN GIRL star, who has sold more than 100 million records since the early 1970s, insists he has nothing interesting left to say and is happy to let younger artists hog release schedules.

He tells the New York Daily News, "I have been a recording artist for a long time, and I have had my say.

"I suppose I had a lot more ambition and a lot more arrogance when I was younger to think what I had to say was all that important.

"Now I'm at a point where I've shot my mouth off enough. What I have to say is not all that fascinating.

"You know what? It's time to shut up!"
