Billy Joel has given fans in his native New York something to smile about after announcing plans to perform one show a month at the city's fabled Madison Square Garden throughout next year (14).
The beloved singer-songwriter announced his residency plans on Tuesday (03Dec13) after concerts at the venue in January, February, March and April all sold out in record time.
A statement from the Piano Man reads: "Performing at Madison Square Garden is a thrilling experience. I've played different venues all over the world, but there's no place like coming home to The Garden.
"Since my first show in 1978, I've always looked forward to the energy of the crowd. I'm honored to be joining the Madison Square Garden family and look forward to taking the stage of the newly transformed Garden to create many more memorable nights."
Joel, who has performed 46 shows at Madison Square Garden, currently holds the record for the most-consecutive sold-out concerts there with 12.
Upon making his residency plans public, the Uptown Girl singer also announced he would be performing at the venue on his 65th birthday (09May14).
He last played at the Garden a year ago, when he was part of the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy relief concert.
Joel, who will be feted at the Kennedy Center Honors on 8 December (13), will kick off what is shaping up to be a very exciting 2014 with a New Year's Eve concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
