The comedian/actor, who started his performing life as a folk singer, will be presented with the Special Recognition Award by his close pal, actor Dustin Hoffman.

The honour is to mark Connolly's outstanding career, in which his stand-up routines earned him a place as one of Britain's best-loved comedians before he transitioned into movie roles and presenting TV travel shows.

Connolly will receive the trophy at the National Television Awards ceremony at London's O2 Arena on 20 January (16).
