Billie Piper is reported to be lined up for the leading role in the televised version of the sex drama Belle de Jour.
The tales of the exploits of a high-class prostitute first appeared on the internet and are a far cry from Piper's more squeaky-clean screen appearances in Doctor Who and The Ruby in the Smoke.
Channel 4 is set to screen the drama but has said that it is still in the early stages of development and that at present Piper is "attached" to the role.
Belle de Jour's identity remains unknown to all but a handful of people and the original weblog and ensuing book detail her sexual adventures with a variety of men.
Commenting on the reports about Piper's involvement, Belle de Jour wrote in her blog today: "Before you ask I heard the rumours too, and think she would be absolutely lush. And not only because of the Doctor Who connection."
As the details of the drama are sorted out by the parties involved Piper is set to play Fanny Price in an adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Mansfield Park.
