Bill Murray's quirky comedy Lost In Translation has been given a huge Oscars boost - it's the favourite to win a DIRECTORS GUILD AWARD next month (FEB04).

Director Sofia Coppola will challenge Gary Ross (SEABISCUIT), CLINT EASTWOOD (Mystic River), Peter Jackson (The Lord Of The Rings: THE RETURN OF THE KING) and Peter Weir (MASTER + COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD) at the 7 February (04) ceremony.

But DGA officials have snubbed Anthony Minghella's NICOLE KIDMAN-starring blockbuster Cold Mountain, which is leading the race for a Golden Globe and is a clear OSCAR favourite.
