Bill Murray will not be appearing in Ghostbusters 3. And Dan Aykroyd isn't too happy about that. Aykroyd told Metro "It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."

One thing that Aykroyd is happy about though is the writing team that he's got involved on the new Ghostbusters movie. It's 23 years since Ghostbusters II was released and Aykroyd made sure that he got his hands on a quality team to ensure that the Ghostbusters legacy lives on. "We've got a brilliant new writer on it" says Aykroyd "and we'll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year." He admits that Ghostbusters III has been a long time coming but assures fans of the comedy films that they've been working hard to make sure that they get the formula right. After all, it simply wouldn't do to be messing with one of the movie world's most loved franchises.

"We've got the studio on side," says Dan. "We've tried a few concepts which weren't right but now we've got a good structure and will make it happen." But just to confirm the sad news, there will be no Bill. "I can tell you he won't be involved."
