A Massachusetts promoter has cancelled one of Bill Cosby's upcoming stand-up shows as the embattled comic continues to fight historic allegations of sexual assault.

The Cosby Show star had been booked to appear at the Hanover Theatre on 6 February (15), but venue bosses have revealed the gig has been axed by the event's promoter after reaching an agreement with the actor's agent - and they couldn't be more relieved.

Theatre President and Chief Executive Officer Troy Siebels tells Telegram.com, "I do think we are relieved. It's not a situation anybody wanted to be in, but our image in the community means a lot to us and I know that there are those who will be relieved not to see him appear here."

Demonstrators have been staging protests outside Cosby's recent shows in Canada, where one heckler had to be ejected from a gig in London, Ontario after standing up in the audience and shouting, "You are a rapist", during the funnyman's set.

After the performance, Cosby thanked fans for their patience in a statement, which read: "Dear Fans: One outburst but over 2,600 loyal, patient and courageous fans enjoyed the most wonderful medicine that exist for human-kind. Laughter.

"I thank you... for your continued honour and support. I'm far from finished."

Cosby will face further protests when he takes his routine to Denver, Colorado on Saturday (17Jan15), when leading women's rights attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing a number of his accusers, plans to hold an event in the area to educate locals on how to show their support for his alleged victims. She is also planning to join the picket line as fans head into the theatre for Cosby's show.

More than 20 women, including models Beverly Johnson and Janice DICkinson, have come forward in the past three months, accusing the veteran actor of inappropriate behaviour over the years, with some alleged victims claiming they were drugged and raped.

Cosby's attorney has blasted all of the accusations, insisting they are false, but the scandal has cost Cosby a handful of gigs and high profile positions on school and university boards.
