Former U.S. President Bill Clinton is to be feted at the upcoming Glaad Media Awards.
Clinton will be handed the inaugural Advocate for Change Award in recognition of his continued support of equal rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) community.
During his administration, Clinton was the first President to appoint openly gay and lesbian workers to all levels of government, including James Hormel, America's first openly gay ambassador.
Glaad spokesman Wilson Cruz says, "President Clinton's support of the Lgbt community... shows that the political landscape continues to change in favour of Lgbt equality. Leaders and allies like President Clinton are critical to moving our march for equality forward."
Clinton will be presented with the prize during the Los Angeles Media Awards on April 20th.
