Big Boi, the American rapper and producer best known for being a founding member of hip hop outfit Outkast, has been arrested in Miami on charges of drug possession. Big Boi was reportedly leaving a cruise ship when he was stopped by customs and border patrol dogs, reports Tmz.com.
According to the Miami-Dade County Corrections Department, the rapper was charged with three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. The substances have been listed as ecstasy pills, Mdma and Viagra - the latter of which he didn't have a prescription for. Big Boi, real name Antwan Patton, was held on $16,000 bond but was released on Monday (8th August 2011). His attorney Daniel Kane has since told CNN the rapper was travelling with a group of friends when he was arrested, saying, "A small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage.I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated".
The rapper met Andre 3000 while the pair attended high school in the early 1990's. After establishing their mutual interest in hip-hop, the duo formed Outkast and subsequently signed with LaFace Records. The group are regarded as the most successful hip-hop outfit of all time, having received six GRAMMY AWARDS.
