Pop superstar Beyonce Knowles's plans to switch on the Christmas lights on London's Oxford Street have been thwarted - by American PRESIDENT GEORGE W Bush.

The CRAZY IN LOVE singer was keen to turn on the illuminations, but police refused her request because their manpower is stretched to the limit looking after the visiting President.

An insider says, "The OXFORD STREET ASSOCIATION were told the police wouldn't have the manpower to look after such a massive star until Bush left on Friday (21NOV03).

"But that clashed with Beyonce's diary dates so she couldn't do it."
