The former Destiny's Child singer released Formation ahead of her half-time gig at the U.S. sporting showpiece in Santa Clara, California, and the track contains a lyric stating how she and a lover went for dinner at the popular restaurant chain after a sex session.

The unexpected shoutout has boosted profits at the company by 33 per cent, and a spokesman has revealed the pop star's headline-grabbing Super Bowl show also helped increase sales.

Red Lobster CEO Kim Lopdrup says, "It's clear that Beyonce has helped create some Red Lobster fans, and we are very grateful to her for that."

He adds to USA Today, "We had nothing to do with the song and had no advance knowledge of it being released. We learned about it by seeing that we were trending as number one on Twitter, which is probably the first time that has ever happened."
