British soul singer Beverley Knight has slammed director Michael Winner as "arrogant" for turning down an honour from Queen Elizabeth II. Death Wish film-maker Winner was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's 80th birthday honours list but declined the honour because it's "what you get if you clean toilets". Knight, who was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her work campaigning for AIDS charities and as an ambassador for Christian Aid, thinks Winner's behaviour is "insulting". She says, "It's such a ridiculous thing to say. It's so arrogant. "I think it's such a privilege to be acknowledged and given an award. Remarks like that are really insulting to the people who genuinely do good works and deserve it. "I felt so honoured to be given an MBE."
