Actress Bette Midler has urged New York City Council officials to pass a law enforcing boats to slow down on the busy Harlem River.

The flamboyant singer, who heads the New York Restoration Project, is concerned the waves from speeding river traffic are putting children at risk and damaging the boathouse the group had built, according to website PAGESIX.COM

She explains, "I can't stress enough the importance of regulating the speed of motorized boat traffic on the Harlem River - mostly for the kids.

"We have raised the real estate values in a lot of the places that we're in. I think we need a break. I think we need your help."
