ANNIE star Bernadette Peters has vowed to steer clear of busy nail salons - after a visit to one such parlour left her sick.

The actress had recently visited a New York nail salon while she was starring in preview showings of a revival of Broadway show Gypsy, where she says a woman sat down next to her and started coughing.

Peters soon developed a throat infection that caused her to miss several preview performances before the musical opened on 1 May (03), and a few afterwards.

She says, "I am never again having my nails done at one of those places where I'm with a lot of people. Even though I need to. Look at my toes!"

But her energetic return to the hit show has proved to be greatly beneficial - she's up for best actress in a musical at this year's (03) TONY AWARDS.
