Ben Affleck has offered up an explanation for his odd Oscars acceptance speech, in which he suggested his marriage to Jennifer Garner is troubled.

The actor/director left fans and critics alike scratching their heads when he thanked his wife for "working on our marriage for 10 Christmases", adding, "It is work, but it's the best kind of work" during a garbled Best Picture speech after his movie Argo was named the big winner.

But Affleck insists people are reading too much into what he said onstage at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday night (24Feb13).

He explains, "All relationships, to a certain extent, require your work. We work on it together, we try our best, nobody's perfect... She's more perfect than I am."
