Ben Affleck relentlessly pursued Pete Postlethwaite until he agreed to star in THE TOWN - because the moviemaker knew the British actor was perfect for a particular role in the thriller.
The 38 year old wrote, directed and stars as a young criminal ready to change his life in the new movie, which topped the U.S. box office over the weekend (18-19Sep10) with $23.8 million (£15.9 million) in earnings.
He had his sights set on Postlethwaite to play crime boss Fergie the Florist - and carried on calling the star until he accepted the job.
Affleck says, "I had to call Pete five times, as he kept turning me down - I had to accommodate him because I knew how great he was."
But there was one film star the moviemaker didn't have to ask twice to appear in the film.
Rebecca Hall reveals, "I didn't need any persuasion. It was a no-brainer. The Town is a classic, old-fashioned good yarn."
