Hollywood star Ben Affleck has been begging producers of his forthcoming film MAN ABOUT TOWN to give him time off to see his baseball team compete for the WORLD SERIES title.

The Jersey Girl actor is a huge fan of the BOSTON RED SOX, who made history last week (20OCT04) when they beat long-time rivals the NEW YORK YANKEES in the AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES' game seven, and was delighted to see his team beat the ST LOUIS CARDINALS 6-2 on Sunday (24OCT04) to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series.

But the actor - who cheered on the Red Sox at Boston's Fenway Park with new love Jennifer Garner yesterday - insists his team haven't won yet.

He says, "I don't want to jinx it. I just want to enjoy it.

"Obviously, everyone wants to see them win the World Series, but a big part of the psychology was just beating the Yankees. But if they won, it would be so great."

After Sunday's triumph, Affleck rushed back to Vancouver, Canada, to resume filming with co-stars Gina Gershon and REBECCA

ROMIJN-STAMOS, but he is doubtful he will return to the US for this week's (begs25OCT04) games.

He laments, "Hey, I'm lucky they let me off for this."
