Bosses at PepsiCo have blasted Beenie Man after he allegedly performed songs with anti-gay lyrics at a concert sponsored by the drinks giant.
The Jamaican reggae star came under fire after performing his track Mi Nah Wallah, which contains a line about slitting the throats of gay men, at a concert hosted by PepsiCo in Uganda on Saturday (05Dec09).
Officials for the firm have since denounced Beenie Man's lyrics after protests from gay rights activists, and vowed to use caution when selecting artists for future concerts.
A statement emailed to Change.Org reads, "We are appalled by the performer’s lyrics and find them repugnant. Our bottling partner in Uganda was not aware of the performer's views and never would have sponsored the concert with this knowledge.
"Moving forward, we will work closely with our bottling partners to be more vigilant about the events associated with our brands."
