Gospel singer RONALD WINANS died of heart complications yesterday (17JUN05). He was 48.

Winans, who had suffered a heart attack in 1997, had recently been admitted to Detroit, Michigan's Harper Hospital for observation, after doctors realised he was retaining fluid.

Bebe Winans, one of Ronald Winans' brothers, says in a statement, "The family wishes to thank everyone who joined us in prayer and will continue to extend their unwavering support during our time of loss."

Ronald Winans, along with brothers Marvin and CARVIN and MICHAEL, were discovered by gospel singer Andrae Crouch. As the quartet THE WINANS, they went on to release their first album in 1981 called INTRODUCING THE WINANS.

Ronald Winans, who sang on five GRAMMY-winning albums, released his final CD, a live recording, in January (05).
