A collage used to produce an insert for The Beatles' iconic Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album has sold for more than $80,000 (£50,000) at auction.

The artwork, which was included as an insert with the original 1967 record, was created by Sir Peter Blake and pop artist Jann Haworth and features the military man of the record's title alongside images of the Fab Four.

The piece went under the hammer at London auction house Sotheby's on Tuesday (13Nov12) and sold for $88,400 (£55,250).

Sir Peter Blake also created the album's iconic cover sleeve, which included images of stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando and British actress Diana Dors.
