The autograph Beatles legend John Lennon gave to gunman Mark David Chapman hours before he murdered the singer is for sale.

Chapman approached Lennon in New York with a copy of the star's DOUBLE FANTASY LP - which he recorded with wife YOKO ONO - and asked for his signature.

The signed album was later discovered hidden inside a planter near the bloody entrance of Lennon's home, the DAKOTA building, following the former BEATLE's tragic death on 8 December 1980.

The memento available at - which sold for $460,000 (GBP287,500) four years ago - is expected to attract bids up $525,000 (GBP328,125) this time around, according to website PAGESIX.

Recently, Lennon's handwritten copy of Beatles track NOWHERE MAN sold for $455,000 (GBP284,375), encouraging the autograph owner to put his prized possession under the hammer.
