Baz Luhrmann credits being turned away from Australia's National Institute Of Dramatic Art with spurring him on to become a movie director. The Moulin Rouge! filmmaker was devastated when he was rejected from the prestigious school as a teenager, but vowed to carve out a successful career regardless of his knockback. And the 44-year-old still remembers some words of advice actress and two-time Oscar nominee Judy Davis gave him in the 1980s. He says, "Judy Davis told me 'You must get out and live, do something real.' So I became a librarian for three weeks."
