The amount seems preposterous on its face, but rumors spread over the Internet on Tuesday that a new ebook by comic book artist Vince Russell, Beyond Batman: The Unauthorized True Story of Christian Bale and His Dark Knight Dilemma was claiming that Christian Bale had been offered $50 million to reprise his role as Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie. In fact, the only thing that Russell writes in the book is that at a New Year's Eve party he was talking to a friend about Bale's announcement that he would not appear again as Batman for a fourth time. (We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three. That's enough. Let's not get greedy.) The person remarked that Bale could probably make $50 million for being in the movie 20 minutes, then asked, Why would Christian Bale walk away from what is certainly going to be either the first- or second-highest grossing movie in the history of cinema? There is nothing said in the book about Bale actually being offered $50 million to reprise the role. In the meantime British bookmaker Ladbrokes is saying that Josh Brolin, at 2-1 odds, is the favorite to play Batman in the Justice League film, with Ryan Gosling coming in second with 3-1 odds.
