The Great Gatsby Trailer

When Nick Carraway moved from the Midwest to New York in 1922 to kick start his business career, he unknowingly rents a house right next door to one of the most influential yet elusive characters in the land. The mysterious and great Gatsby who regularly hosts extravagant parties ends up drawing Carroway into his world of sparkle, glamour, wealth and honour with ease as he is already drawn to the overindulgence and luxury of the city. But why does Gatsby, a man known for enjoying his own company, wish to open his doors to the stranger that is Carroway? Nick happens to be the cousin of the Daisy who lives across the bay and that connection gives Gatsby a way in to rekindle an old relationship that has been etched in his mind for several long years. Despite Nick's initial awe of Gatsby's whole existence, he soon begins to have his suspicions of him and starts to uncover the real corrupt and manipulative world of the upper-class.

'The Great Gatsby'  has been directed and produced by Baz Luhrmann ('Moulin Rouge', 'Romeo + Juliet'); a man known for his use of glamour and breathtaking splendour in his dramatic flicks. It is a truly remarkable adaptation of the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and is full to bursting with the glamour, scandal, deceit, romance and tragedy of the 1920's high class world. It is set to be released on May 17th 2013.

Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Callan McAuliffe, Gemma Ward, Amitabh Bachchan, Jason Clarke, Jack Thompson, Jacek Koman, Vince Colosimo, Max Cullen, Barry Otto, Felix Williamson, Stephen James King,

The Punisher (1989) Review

Terrible
One of cinema's worst duds ever, Dolph Lundgren is actually at his mediocre best here as the Marvel Comics star -- a former policeman turned vigilante who is out to avenge the death of his wife and child. Things go from stupid to completely asinine when the Punisher decides to take on the local Japanese Yakuza mobsters, who have kidnapped the children of his usual enemies, the Italian mafia. Can't we all just get along? Not if it means sitting through this film, marred by cheeseball sets and special effects, lame fight sequences, and some of the worst acting ever to disgrace the screen. Director Mark Goldblatt returned to editing after this bomb.

Strictly Ballroom Review

Good
There is weird cinema, and there is Australian cinema. There are weird movies about dancing, and there is Strictly Ballroom. Part Rocky with a touch of Blue Velvet, Simply Ballroom is the decidedly odd story of a boy (Paul Mercurio) and his tap shoes... a professional ballroom dancer who doesn't buy in to the rigidity the "sport" requires, instead busting out his own "crowd pleasing moves" and being frequently disqualified. His partner abandons him and he takes up with a plain Jane girl (Tara Morice), whom he teaches to be his new partner. Together, they manage to please the crowd even more, with or without music. What the film lacks in story, it makes up for with lots and lots of pompadours.

Now released on DVD (which includes a commentary from Luhrmann and his crew), it's easier to track Luhrmann's transition from Ballroom to Romeo + Juliet to the masterful Moulin Rouge -- and his road to greatness is an impressive one. Ballroom belies Luhrmann's love for the stage (beginning, Rouge-style, with a red curtain opening) and for gaudiness, but the tale is beyond his budget and sadly lacking in grandeur. Rouge took the ideas here -- from music to costuming to the idealistic hero -- and kicked it up about 20 notches. And in the process, Luhrmann learned how to make dialogue more thrilling and how to better develop his characters.

Cosi Review

Good
Cute but predictable, Cosi revolves around the cute-but-predictable premise of a group of insane asylum inmates who put on a rendition of the opera Cosi fan Tutte despite having no acting or singing ability whatsoever (not to mention a lack of sanity). Highlights include the always-on Collette, Barry Otto (channelling Geoffrey Rush), and Ben Mendelsohn (channelling Noah Taylor). Odd, yet cute and, you know, predictable.
