A new book reveals the long rift between PEGGY LEE and Barbra Streisand that only ended when the former died in 2002. They fell out in 1969 when they were both booked to perform at a hotel launch in Las Vegas. Each star was to sing on one of the hotel's stages, but Streisand quickly became upset when Lee garnered more attention in the lounge then she was getting in the big ball room, according to THE LIFE OF MUSIC OF MISS PEGGY LEE by PETER RICHMOND. The book claims the critics were willing to hand out bad reviews to Streisand who got a better venue, but applauded Lee's performance. It adds that the FUNNY GIRL singer was pushed over the edge when Lee had the hotel place promotional cards on tables and put one of her records in every room. Streisand requested all items be removed, to which the hotel complied, infuriating Lee.
