Barbra Streisand has revealed she had her beloved pet pooch Samantha cloned twice before the dog's death last year.
Barbra Streisand had her beloved pet pooch Samantha cloned.
The 75-year-old singer and actress tragically lost her four-legged friend Samantha in 2017 at the age of 14, but has revealed that before the dog's death, she had cells taken from her mouth and stomach in order to create clones of the fluffy white Coton du Tulear.
Now, Barbra - who is married to actor James Brolin and has 51-year-old son Jason Gould with her ex-husband Elliot Gould - is the proud owner of Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, who were successfully cloned from Samantha's cells in a pricey procedure.
The 'Evergreen' hitmaker revealed the news in an interview with Variety magazine, when she suggested that the caption on a photo of her with her pooches should read: ''Send in the clones.''
She added: ''They have different personalities. I'm waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha's] brown eyes and seriousness.''
Despite being all white, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett got their colourful monikers after Barbra had difficulty telling the cloned pups apart when they first arrived at her Malibu home, and so she dressed one in a red sweater, and one in a purple sweater.
The 'Tell Him' singer also owns a third Coton du Tulear pooch named Miss Fanny, who isn't a clone of Samantha, but is a distant cousin of the late hound.
Barbra announced the death of Samantha on social media in May last year, when she shared a snap of herself holding the pooch.
She captioned the image: ''Jason took this pic of me holding Sammie on Mother's Day. This is the last time my picture was taken with my beloved girl Samantha.
''May she rest in peace. We cherish every moment of the 14 years we had with her. May 2003 - May 2017. (sic)''
