Respected American newswoman Barbara Walters raided the gift shop at Prince CHARLES' HIGHGROVE residence so she could take home souvenirs from a night she spent with the future King and CAMILLA PARKER-BOWLES.
Walters has been a longtime admirer of Charles' girlfriend, and has been trying to persuade her to talk about her romance on American TV for years, so she was thrilled when Camilla invited her to join the royal couple at a polo party recently.
The broadcaster, who is famous for landing big-name interviews in the US, cancelled everything and jumped at the chance to dine with the royal couple and their friends - and was thrilled to find she could take home souvenirs of her day, courtesy of Charles' gift shop.
Walters says, "I bought a letter opener with the royal plume on it for about $20 and they sell candles, so I bought a lot of candles.
"I also bought a bookmark and a paperweight."
And, after spending the day with Charles and Camilla, she's convinced they should wed: "They're very lovely together."
Walters admits she's still keen to land a TV interview with the couple.10/07/2003 09:30
