Veteran U.S. broadcaster Barbara Walters remains hospitalised in Washington, D.C. with a low fever after taking a tumble over the weekend (19Jan13).

The 83 year old, who was in town covering U.S. President Barack Obama's inauguration celebrations, fell and cut her forehead while visiting the British Ambassador's residence on Saturday (19Jan13).

She was noticeably absent from her hosting gig on chat show The View on Tuesday (22Jan13), prompting her co-presenter, actress Whoopi Goldberg, to read aloud a statement from Walters, which read: "First and foremost, all the people who have called, written and been concerned about me, I'm most appreciative. I'm running a low-grade fever and the doctors are keeping me in the hospital until my temperature is normal. I'm pleased that it is going in the right direction and I will be home soon."

Sister Act star Goldberg also revealed her pal's injuries were significant enough to warrant stitches.

She added, "Barbara went to Washington to cover the inauguration. She missed a step and had a fall, which cut her upper temple. The doctors stitched her up and she is doing fine, but they want her to take it easy."
