French director Michel Hazanavicius wrote critically-acclaimed movie The Artist as a "love letter" to his wife.
The silent movie has dominated this year's (12) awards season, already taking home four Critics' Choice Awards and three Golden Globes - and it's also set to sweep next month's (Feb12) British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards after scooping 12 nominations.
The moviemaker's wife Berenice Bejo stars in the movie, and Hazanavicius reveals he wrote the story as a tribute to his partner.
Asked on Britain's The One Show if he ever considered not casting Bejo, he revealed, "It's much more simple than that actually - I wrote the script with her in mind.
"They say that this movie is a love letter to Hollywood, but I have to think it's also a love letter to my wife."
