Backstreet Boys star Brian Littrell has praised his bandmate A.J. MCLEAN for seeking help in rehab - insisting he's glad his pal checked into the facility of his own accord.
The 33-year-old singer, who has battled substance abuse issues for many years, entered a clinic earlier this month (Jan11) "for personal reasons".
MCLean previously enrolled in treatment programs in 2001 and 2002, and Littrell insists it was a struggle to get him into rehab the "last time", but he is "proud" his pal is now actively seeking to solve his problems.
Littrell tells North Carolina radio station Bob 93.3, "I'm proud that he would go into this situation willingly... Last time it was a lot worse. He really went into rehab unwillingly the last time."
Backstreet Boys are due to embark on a joint tour with New Kids on the Block in June (11).
