Senegalese singer YOUSSOU N'DOUR joined a host of artists at a massive charity concert aimed at raising funds to eradicate malaria in Africa.

AFRICA LIVE - billed as the continent's response to LIVE AID - also featured performances by Senegalese stars Baaba Maal and ORCHESTRA BAOBAB, singers from Mali including OUMOU SANGARE, Ali Farka Toure, SALIF KEITA, and Rokia Traore and CHEB Khaled of Algeria.

Around 40,000 people attended the two-day music extravaganza - which was beamed live around the world - in Dakar yesterday (12MAR05) and today (13MAR05).

N'Dour says, "We may not have a lot but we do have something: we have our music, and that music is power.

"With all of us coming together, with this musical force, we can accelerate the rhythm of action against malaria, and help rid our continent of this scourge."
