GUNS N' ROSES star Axl Rose has lost his bid to stop the release of the group's early recordings.

Rose was denied a preliminary injunction on Tuesday (06JUL04) in his attempt to block the release of HOLLYWOOD ROSE recordings on a new CLEOPATRA RECORDS release THE ROOTS OF GUNS N' ROSES.

The recordings were made in 1984 by Rose and guitarist IZZY STRADLIN - before they were joined by Slash, Duff Mckagan and Matt Sorum.

Rose sued Cleopatra Records bosses for trademark infringement, improper use of his name and likeness and unfair competition.

Ironically, Rose argued that the release of the early material would interfere with promotion for the recent Guns N' Roses hits album, which he also attempted to block in court.
