Punk pop star Avril Lavigne has hit back at rumours she snubbed an award at a recent presentation - insisting she never agreed to attend the ceremony.
The Sk8er Boi singer was expected to attend Canada's annual Napanee Multicultural Festival in her home town of Napanee on Saturday (20Jun09).
Lavigne was slated to take to the stage to accept a trophy for cultural contributions through her music.
But fans were left disappointed when the star failed to turn up at the event, with a spokesperson for the awards ceremony telling the audience: "The person I was dealing with who made certain promises to me about Avril (or her father) appearing evidently did not keep their promise".
However, Lavigne insists there is no way she could have attended the bash - because she had never heard of the ceremony until the story of her no-show broke on the internet.
A statement on her MySpace.com blog reads, "Avril was not committed to attend the Napanee Ontario Multicultural Festival. Her management had no knowledge of this event.
"She appreciates the honour, however to say that she 'flaked and didn't show up' is completely untrue, as she had no knowledge of this event whatsoever. Avril is currently in the U.S. working on her 4th album."
