Tony Award winner Audra McDonald has been put on strict vocal rest after damaging her vocal cords performing in Broadway musical The Gershwins Porgy & Bess.
The actress/singer, who picked up a 2012 Tony Award last month (Jun12), has missed a string of shows as she battles to recover from illness and now producers have explained exactly what she's battling.
According to theatre news website BroadwayWorld.com, she has been placed on a period of complete vocal rest by her doctor after performing with a respiratory infection last week (ends29Jun12).
According to sources, MCDonald's vocal cords have become so inflamed she cannot sing. She is scheduled to return to the production on Tuesday (03Jul12).
