Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife Maria Shriver has pledged her support to a proposed amendment which would allow people born outside America to run for president.

Shriver - whose uncle is US Senator EDWARD KENNEDY - believes immigrants, like her California Governor husband, should be allowed to compete for the top job, because America is a nation of different races and cultures.

She says, "We are a nation of immigrants. That's how we started. If people come here and live 20 years, work for this country, believe that they can change it, I don't think we are in any position to say, 'No, you are not capable, you are not OK to run.'"

However, when asked if she would want her husband to seek the nation's highest office, she replied, "I'm just trying to get through this gig," referring to his new post as Governor of California.
