The veteran movie stars have already shot Viy-2, a Russian-Chinese venture which serves as the sequel to 2014 release Viy, according to producer Alexey Petrukhin.

It also features Charles Dance and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels actor Jason Flemyng, who led the cast in the original and returns as English explorer Jonathan Green for the follow-up.

Viy-2 will follow Green as he follows through on an order from Peter the Great to map the Russian Far East.

A statement released to Variety.com reads: "Once again he sets out for a long journey full of incredible adventures that will eventually lead him to China. The cartographer will face many breathtaking discoveries, encounter bizarre creatures, meet with Chinese princesses, and confront deadly martial-arts masters and the Dragon King."

The film was shot in China, and directed by Oleg Stepchenko from a script he co-wrote with Petrukhin and Dmitry Palcev.

It is expected to hit theatres next year (17).
