The son of legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin has been hospitalised following an attack at a gas station in Detroit last night (21st September 2010). 52-year-old Eddie Franklin underwent emergency surgery after being severely assaulted by two men and a woman, reports the UK's Daily Mail.
Franklin was rushed to the local hospital by an unidentified person following the attack, which took place near Plymouth and Evergreen. However, when police officials arrived to question him today, they found that Eddie had already checked himself out. Detroit Police Sgt Eren Stephens said, "When our officers went to talk to him at the hospital, he had already checked himself out and left", and when quizzed on potential suspects, the officer added, "We have nothing at all". The assault appears to be shrouded in mystery, as details of who took Franklin to hospital remain unknown, and there was apparently no security video at the gas station.
Grammy Award winning Franklin had her son Eddie when she was just 16-years-old, and he was cleared of setting fire to his mother's house in 2002. Her 10,000 square-foot mansion in Michigan appeared to have been torched, but discrepancies in evidence and witness statements meant nobody was charged.
