Following the band's headline slot at Britain's Glastonbury festival this year (13), some critics accused the band of betraying their working class roots by ditching their T-shirts and sneakers for designer suits and smart shoes.
But Turner insists that whatever image he adopts for his band is an act and not representative of his real persona.
He tells GQ magazine, "Perhaps it's a slightly different character from ten years ago, but neither of them are really 'me'. Now they're saying, 'You've got this quiff, you're doing this pointing 'thing', the way you dress is different and you seem like you're having a good time'. But that's still an image as well. Like it or not, it's still an act!"
