The mystery of who fathered the baby daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith has finally been resolved.
A court in the Bahamas revealed that DNA tests showed the former Playboy model's ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead to be the biological father of seven-month-old Dannielynn.
The result of the paternity test ends an ongoing saga over the parentage of the infant, whose mother died suddenly in a Florida hotel on February 8th at the age of 39.
Confusion over the cause of Smith's death was finally ended after it was revealed that she had taken an accidental overdose, but until yesterday the identity of her baby daughter's father remained uncertain, with her long-term partner Howard K Stern and Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband Prince Frederick von Anhalt also claiming the title alongside Birkhead.
Emerging from the Nassau court which revealed the 34-year-old to be Dannielynn's true father, the Los Angeles photographer told waiting reporters: "I hate to be the one to tell you this but, I told you so."
"Nothing's really determined except parentage and I'm the father," he added.
However, while Dannielynn's biological heritage has now been confirmed, the question of who will get custody of the child has yet to be decided, with a court set to rule on the issue on Friday.
Stern, who is named as the little girl's father on her Bahamian birth certificate, said that while he was disappointed with the DNA result, he did not intend to challenge Birkhead for custody of the infant.
"I'm going to do everything I can to make sure he (Birkhead) gets sole custody," said Smith's partner at the time of her death.
Dannielynn could stand to inherit a sizeable fortune if Ms Smith's estate is triumphant in an ongoing legal battle to inherit the millions of her former husband J Howard Marshall, the late Texas oil billionaire she married in 1994, when he was 89 and she just 26.
