British actress Anna Friel has been signed up to star opposite Will Ferrell in the upcoming adventure fantasy LAND OF THE LOST.

The former BROOKSIDE star will play funnyman Ferrell's love interest in the Universal picture, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Based upon a 1970s TV show of the same name, LAND OF THE LOST sees Ferrell playing a palaeontologist who is transported back to prehistoric times.

It will be directed by BRAD SIBERLING whose previous projects include LEMONY SNICKET'S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS.

Meanwhile, the PUSHING DAISIES star has revealed that she wants her daughter to stay in touch with her English roots despite the family's relocation to LA.

Anna has hired a nanny from the north of England so that Gracie will pick up her accent rather than a Californian one, reports

Speaking to reporters, Anna said: "I know my roots and where I'm from- I'm northern and I always will be. Now Gracie's talking with northern mannerisms."

In another interview with Newsbeat, the Rochdale-born star said that she is always inviting fellow British actors to her LA home as she is "slightly scared" of her Tinseltown companions.
