LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER: THE CRADLE OF LIFE has failed to top the British box office - just weeks after a disappointing run in America.

The Angelina Jolie vehicle took a disappointing $2.4 million (GBP1.5 million) in its first three days, only enough to enter the UK box office chart at number three.

The action movie lost out to comedy sequel American Wedding, which spent its second week at number one, with Johnny Depp's Pirates Of The Caribbean: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL bagging second place.

Terminator 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES is still riding high in fourth position - taking $1.2 million (GBP790,000) - while Freddy Vs Jason was fifth, earning $704,000 (GBP440,000).

Among the other new entries, CONFIDENCE, starring Dustin Hoffman, was at seven, while Scottish comedian Billy Connolly's THE MAN WHO SUED GOD entered at number nine.
