Angelina Jolie's estranged father Jon Voight has expressed his excitement at his daughter's delivery of twin babies this week.

The Tomb Raider star have birth to Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline in Nice, France on Saturday evening, with her partner Brad Pitt at her side.

And speaking during the Television Critics' Association press tour, Jolie's father - and co-star in the films based on Lara Croft - said he was "very excited" to learn of the birth of his new grandchildren.

"All I can say is, like any father, it's the most exciting that that a new soul is coming in," he told E! News.

"You know, I don't think there's anything more exciting than that. And that they're Angie's babies, and Brad's, all my love goes to them. I was just as excited as everybody else."

When asked about the number of Jolie-Pitt children growing to six, Voight explained: "My niece has twins, and I spent a lot of time with them when they were babies.

"They are a big deal. How many people have seen little tiny twins in their lives? It's a big deal, right?

"Even if they're the world's most remarkable, sleep-oriented, calm children, it's two kids at the same time and it's a lot of work."

Voight, who was discussing his upcoming role as a villain in 24, said he had not been asked to the south of France to visit the newborns but would "find a way" if invited.

Picture agencies are rumoured to be in the midst of a bidding war for the rights to official photographs of the twins, with some commentators predicting a £10 million fee for the snaps.
