Angelina Jolie's highlight of 2014 was when her son Maddox became a teenager.

The 'Maleficent' actress wed her long-term partner, fellow actor Brad Pitt in August, but revealed her eldest son hitting 13 has been the most memorable ''marker'' of the year.

She said: ''My son [Maddox] became a teenager. That was a marker in my year.''

However, the 39-year-old star admitted she is simply thankful her family are fit and well, following a health scare last year which led to her having a double mastectomy to avoid the high possibility of contracting breast cancer.

She continued: ''More than anything, like any mom, I'm just happy the kids are healthy. I married their dad. My health is good.''

The 'Unbroken' director - whose brood also includes Pax, 11, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, eight, and six-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne - has also been speaking about her nuptials to 'Fury' actor Brad, saying her children did a ''really good job'' at organising the ceremony.

Speaking in the latest issue of People magazine, she gushed: ''They did a really good job!

''The eight of us celebrated, and Brad and I committed our lives to the children.''

However, the star recently revealed the couple are just like any other parents, and have had to try and dissuade the youngsters from following in her footsteps and getting tattoos, as Angelina is believed to have 17 inkings of her own.

She said: ''They're already asking me about tattoos. How do I say 'No'?

''It's especially hard for dads and girls. For some reason men get a little more sensitive when the daughter gets a tattoo. And Brad thinks the girls can do no wrong. He's mush in their hands!''
