U.S. TV legend Andy Griffith has died at the age of 86.
The Grammy-winning singer, actor and funnyman passed away on Tuesday (03Jul12) at his home in North Carolina, according to his close friend Bill Friday.
Friday, President of the University of North Carolina, confirmed Griffith's death to Witn News.

Griffith shot to fame in 1957 movie A Face in the Crowd but is best known for his roles in TV comedy The Andy Griffith Show and drama series Matlock.
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.
